Shia LaBeouf got his big break thanks to the Disney Channel series, Even Stevens; however, it was the actor’s transition to films that quickly helped him skyrocket into A-list status. In 2007, Disturbia was the film that finally got the world to notice the former Disney Channel star and Transformers officially confirmed LaBeouf as a leading man. Magazines and all forms of media dubbed him the next big thing and for a while, the actor was a hot commodity within the movie world. For the next five years, LaBeouf was living the high life by starring in successful blockbusters; however, once his time in the Transformers franchise ended, so did the height of his fame. This was around the time that LaBeouf’s onset behavior started to come to light. One of the most notable accusations was LaBeouf’s behavior on Lawless, in which his co-star Mia Wasikowska spoke about the difficulties of working with the actor; however, the actress wasn’t the only one who had issues with the former Disney Channel star as LaBeouf and Tom Hardy reportedly got into an altercation onset, with the director of Lawless, John Hillcoat, confirming some type of altercation between both men on Reddit AMA“there was definitely a fight between them. It escalated to the point where they had to both be restrained.”
However, LaBeouf addressed these rumors by confirming that they did get into a fight with Hardy, but the two would “wrestle all the time.” In an interview with ComplexLaBeouf actually described an incident regarding him and Hardy just joking around that resulted in Hardy accidentally falling downstairs. According to LaBeouf, Hardy joked that he knocked him out during the shoot. LaBeouf’s recount of the side of events hasn’t been confirmed by anyone else, but that’s not the point. The main narrative is that the actor has reported allegations about his behavior behind the scenes. The actor has been in trouble with the law that has seen him catch a criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, and harassment charge. At this point, LaBeouf notably became a liability to many studios and wasn’t seen in many mainstream features, though he still managed to get work on the indie scene. However, a pair of movies put him back in the mainstream, namely Peanut Butter Falcon and Honey Boyboth of which were critically acclaimed.
That was short-lived though, as LaBeouf’s career took a downward spiral after ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs accused him of abuse. She filed a lawsuit in conjunction with another ex, Karolyn Pho. The allegations against him stem from physical violence, choking and head-butting his partners, as well as psychological torture. So, with all the controversy, does this tarnish LaBeouf’s legacy? In all honesty, it depends on the person you ask. For some, it can be hard to watch LaBeouf’s performances and separate the actor from the human being. There’s no denying that his reported behavior is bad, and, in some ways, this does ruin the legacy that was going strong in the early 2000s. However, LaBeouf isn’t the only actor to spiral out of control. It happens. We’re flawed individuals that make mistakes from time to time. The key thing is that LaBeouf needs to grow and evolve from everything he’s done. The guy is a talented actor. Even if you didn’t like him in Transformers, or Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, he’s shown his versatility thanks to roles such as Honey Boy or Peanut Butter Falcon. If LaBeouf is unable to recover then unfortunately, he’ll be remembered for the heinous crimes that he’s done instead of the films he’s made. But hopefully, the actor is truly getting himself better. While he can’t take away the pain of what’s he’s done in the past, he can surely prevent himself from hurting others in the future.

Magazines and all forms of media dubbed him the next big thing and for a while, the actor was a hot commodity within the movie world. For the next five years, LaBeouf was living the high life by starring in successful blockbusters; however, once his time in the Transformers franchise ended, so did the height of his fame. This was around the time that LaBeouf’s onset behavior started to come to light. One of the most notable accusations was LaBeouf’s behavior on Lawless, in which his co-star Mia Wasikowska spoke about the difficulties of working with the actor; however, the actress wasn’t the only one who had issues with the former Disney Channel star as LaBeouf and Tom Hardy reportedly got into an altercation onset, with the director of Lawless, John Hillcoat, confirming some type of altercation between both men on Reddit AMA“there was definitely a fight between them. It escalated to the point where they had to both be restrained.”
However, LaBeouf addressed these rumors by confirming that they did get into a fight with Hardy, but the two would “wrestle all the time.” In an interview with ComplexLaBeouf actually described an incident regarding him and Hardy just joking around that resulted in Hardy accidentally falling downstairs. According to LaBeouf, Hardy joked that he knocked him out during the shoot. LaBeouf’s recount of the side of events hasn’t been confirmed by anyone else, but that’s not the point. The main narrative is that the actor has reported allegations about his behavior behind the scenes. The actor has been in trouble with the law that has seen him catch a criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, and harassment charge. At this point, LaBeouf notably became a liability to many studios and wasn’t seen in many mainstream features, though he still managed to get work on the indie scene. However, a pair of movies put him back in the mainstream, namely Peanut Butter Falcon and Honey Boyboth of which were critically acclaimed.
That was short-lived though, as LaBeouf’s career took a downward spiral after ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs accused him of abuse. She filed a lawsuit in conjunction with another ex, Karolyn Pho. The allegations against him stem from physical violence, choking and head-butting his partners, as well as psychological torture. To add the cherry on top, more behind-the-scenes bad behavior was reported, but this time with Olivia Wilde, who exited the music video, Love Me Like You Hate Me,” which featured the actor. That rumor was fueled when Wilde allegedly fired LaBeouf for his attitude on Don’t Worry Darling. Currently, LaBeouf’s career is in limbo, and he’s essentially been blacklisted from Hollywood. It’s always possible that LaBeouf makes a come back years down the line, but as of right now, that appears to be an uphill task. As with these articles, I will not make any personal judgment in regards to LaBeouf’s behavior. The 35-year-old is reportedly focusing on treatment as he has admitted that he needs help. So, with all the controversy, does this tarnish LaBeouf’s legacy? In all honesty, it depends on the person you ask. For some, it can be hard to watch LaBeouf’s performances and separate the actor from the human being. There’s no denying that his reported behavior is bad, and, in some ways, this does ruin the legacy that was going strong in the early 2000s. However, LaBeouf isn’t the only actor to spiral out of control. It happens. We’re flawed individuals that make mistakes from time to time. The key thing is that LaBeouf needs to grow and evolve from everything he’s done. The guy is a talented actor. Even if you didn’t like him in Transformers, or Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, he’s shown his versatility thanks to roles such as Honey Boy or Peanut Butter Falcon. If LaBeouf is unable to recover then unfortunately, he’ll be remembered for the heinous crimes that he’s done instead of the films he’s made. But hopefully, the actor is truly getting himself better. While he can’t take away the pain of what’s he’s done in the past, he can surely prevent himself from hurting others in the future.

Ray Winstone is one of those actors who blends so effortlessly into scenes – at least when he’s well-cast – that it’s often easy to forget just how great an actor he is. Having carved out a firm niche for himself as one of the quintessential “hard men” of cinema, it’s a role Winstone commits to with absolute relish every time we see him. Thus while it’s easy to pick out a handful of great performances, it’s difficult to pick out ones that are objectively bad; while he’s guilty of slumming it like just about every jobbing actor going, he’s typically the victim of a poor script and poor direction rather than a lack of effort on his own accord. Nevertheless, with the big-screen update of The Sweeney in cinemas this week, here are our five favourite and five least-favourite Winstone performances to date. 5 Awesome Movies…
5. The Proposition (2005)
John Hillcoat’s fine-tuned Aussie western remains one of the best recent examples of the genre, in which a violent rogue, Charlie Burns (Guy Pearce) is told that if he can track down and kill his vicious older brother, Arthur (Danny Huston), then he will be pardoned for his crimes, and also save the life of his younger brother, Mikey (Richard Wilson), who is scheduled to be hanged. It’s all at the behest of Ray Winstone’s Captain Stanley, a rigorous authoritarian who wishes to wipe out violent crime and tame the unforgiving wilderness by having its most violent example done away with. This is a rare instance where Winstone, in effect, plays the “good guy”, though like any good morality play, it’s never as simple as that. Gael Garcia Bernal landed On here on earth (Here on Earth) at CanneSeriespremiering his political corruption drama at the television festival on Monday.
The actor created, directed and stars on the show, which falls under the banner of his newly formed La Current of the Gulf production company. Bernalwho along with partner Diego Luna parted ways with their previous production venture Canana and launched Current of the Gulf (Gulf Stream) last week, chalked the big change up to “the normal cycle of life.”
“We wanted to develop a new way of doing things and we were already doing it with this series,” he said of Tierra.
The new company will be involved in film, with the Garcia Bernal-directedchicuarotes in postproduction; TV, with Tierra poised for renewal in the next few months; and community projects, such as their Morelia International Film Festival and earthquake relief fundraising.
Garcia Bernal said he was “surprised” by Amazon’s sudden cancellation of his Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning show Mozart in the Jungle. “I was sad. I was disappointed,” he said. But the move will free up more time as he’s already in development on a second season of Tierra.
Garcia Bernal is also busy with his political activism — and possible ambitions — which were one of the driving factors behind the show.
“I feel strongly one day that I will have to engage myself in the public agora in some way,” he said. In the meantime, while he’s still in “the thinking stage,” he’s been an anti-corruption advocate at the U.N. and hopes to push the public debate with Tierra.
“We can talk about corruption through journalism or political discussions, but at the same time you need these tangents where you see the human side of things, and get a sense and try to understand the cost of the conflict that exists,” said Garcia Bernal.
“Doing a film or a series that deals with these issues will be intrinsically political. It is one of the motivating factors to express and defend the freedom [of speech]to be responsible with it and to sustain that freedom,” he said of the hard-won rights that have developed over the last 30 years in Latin America. “We can’t go back. We can’t censor ourselves.”
The show will launch April 20 across Latin America, with Brazil following a month later. Fox Networks Group Latin America has launched sales at MIPTV.
Tierra also marks new ambitions for the group, who want to raise the quality bar. “We need to compete and have productions on the same level as 21st Century Fox is making in the U.S.,” said Fox Networks Group Latin America president Carlos Martinez, who hopes the project will change the brand identity for the pay TV channel. The show will also drop all episodes Netflix-style for binge-watching millennials who are used to high production values.
With stars, story and quality, the exec also hopes On here on theTierra will get a U.S. slot and be the first Spanish-language show to air in primetime.
While the series begins with murder and political conspiracy, it also focuses on two lifelong friends from different sides of the tracks and the issues surrounding the development of an airport project. When Garcia Bernal and Kyzzaterraces began working on the story three years ago, it was fiction; today, it has become a major topic in the Mexican presidential campaign.
Garcia Bernal says the class struggles of the story apply to the U.S. as well. “Mexico shares the American dream, the American dream is about America the continent,” he said. While he acknowledges some historical differences, “one of the hypocrisies or contradictions that both countries have is that they both pretend to be justice for all and we are all equal. But justice is for a few, and if you have money, you get away with it.”
